My Integral Mandala is inspired in part by Ken Wilber's AQAL diagram is perhaps the fist systematic attempt to represent all of reality and all of human knowledge in a single glyph. Earlier glyphs, such as Jain cosmic diagrams, Tantric mandalas and the Kabbalistic Tree of life, perhaps are better than the AQAL diagram at an evocative visual or symbolic representation, but, obviously, do not incorporate the amount of new discoveries and new fields of knowledge an dunderstanding about the universe opened up by the objective sciences.
My diagram differs from Wilber's in being specifically metaphysical, and rejecting the physicalist-bound perspective of modernism and post-modernism that Wilber feels he has to abide by. So my position rejects wilberian "neoperennialism" and the holarchic "great nest of being" for a fully metaphysical take (or retake), on original perennial hierarchic Great Chain of Being approach. Wilber's holarchy is retained, but it only pertains to one of the four ontoclines
AQAL / Tetraevolution | Quadontology / Ontodynamics | |
Center position | Involution / physical matter at center | Absolute at center (as in traditional mandalas) |
Ontology | holons - 4 aspects of same thing, cannot combine with other quadrants | each quadrant a different reality, can be combined with any other level and/or quadrant to create infinite variation |
Metaphysics | Postmodern/Post metaphysical - Great Nest of Being (rejects metaphysics) | Traditional/Esoteric ("pre-modern" / perennial) |
Basic unit | Holon | dynamic co-action of two centers/perspectives of consciousness |
Evolution | All quadrants evolve (tetra-evolution) (included in diagram) | Co-Action compass (requires separate diagram, although individual levels/quadrants have a position according to whether yin or yang in relation to the co-actee.) |
