Barbara Brennan is an author, healer, teacher and scientist.  She recieved her Master's Degree in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Wisconsin, and then became a research scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, before turning to esotericism and healing.  She joined the Pathwork and became intrigued by John Pierrakos. Most of her ideas came from him, as he was her mentor at one time.  She graduated at the Institute of Core Energetics and became a Senior Pathwork Helper.  Since 1970 she has been studying, researching, and working with the human energy field.

She then founded her own school, Barbara Brennan School of Healing.  Her first first book,  Hands of Light: A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field, quickly became a best-seller in 1989 and remains a New Age classic of modern esotericism.   This book was and remains still the single most important text on the Human Energy Field (the subtle body).  It is in the spirit of people like Leadbeater and Alice Bailey, but far surpases anything they have done.  I have used the descriptions of the subtle etheric bodies containined in Hands of Light as a paradigmatic description for understanding these faculties of our being.

Ms Brennan's second book, Light Emerging: The Journey of Personal Healing, although containing some new information, is no-where near the standard of the first one (in my humble opinion)  It needed more practical observations and techniques and less channelled material if it was to equal Hands of Light.  She has written a third book, Seeds of the Spirit, which I haven't seen.  But inasmuch as it is based on, I quote "a collection of transformative poetic channelings" I don't think it will be as good as Hands of Light either.  Ah well, just call me an old cynic  ;-)

Ms Brennan still runs training sessions for groups in the healing arts.  I have recently heard something about this organisation that is not so nice.  But irrespective of whatever faults she might have, I have no doubt that Barbara Brennan's ground-breaking work will remain seminal for many years to come.
